quaker friends school :: jamaica pond, jamaica plain, massachusetts :: 2010

The main focus of this school was to create a sense of community, one of the major principles of Quakerism. To achieve that goal, the first design idea was to create an interior atrium where the students and staff could socialize.
The top floor contains the private program, including all the classrooms as well as the meeting room. The bottom floor holds the public program, including the library and multi-purpose space.
The top story mimics the landscape's swale through its form, and the bottom story emphasizes the flow of the swale by the use of glass to make it transparent.
